Composites is the name given to a range of materials that have fibre reinforcements embedded in a polymer resin. In many cases, the resin is a thermoset although thermoplastic resins are increasing in usage. Many composite components are made from either fiberglass and polyester or carbon fibre and epoxy: The former reserved for lower value products such as small boats, bodywork on vehicles and the latter for highly loaded components such as aircraft and motorsport parts.

In the local polymer industry, composites are used widely in industries such as aerospace, automotive, motorsport and many other industrial uses.
